*What makes an ideal author in today’s publishing climate, from an editor’s perspective?

*What are the current pros and cons of going with an indie publisher vs. a Big House?

*Is there such a thing as being too persistent? *what's the difference between pre-publicity ( a no-no) and building your platform (an absolute must)?

SPECIAL OFFER: Your $35 ticket also entitles you to 20% OFF a Virtual Lunch -- a comprehensive hour-long one-on-one phone consultation -- with Brooke.***

Ever wish you could ask a senior editor in an established (and amazing!) publishing house a question without revealing what you don’t know? Do you long for access to sought-after insiders without having to “perform”? Has there been a particular aspect of the writing, proposing, or platform-building process that’s bewildered or paralyzed you, kept you up at night, and separated you from your goal? Then this one’s for you.

This is not so much a “webinar” as it is a pitch session without the pitch.

Here’s how it will work. Brooke will first briefly share the top five things she feels it's critical that YOU, the author, know.  She’ll then turn it over and open the floor. Deborah will moderate. Come with questions and please don’t be shy. There is no question too great, no question too small.

***VIRTUAL LUNCH: Slots are filling up quickly.  Sign up to reserve "lunch" by emailing services@shewrites.com with "Virtual Lunch with Brooke" as the subject

About Our Expert

Brooke Warner is Senior Editor at Seal Press, publisher of women’s nonfiction books, written for women, by women. Brooke has been in the publishing industry for over ten years and has been coaching and consulting individual writers for the past three years. Brooke specializes in women’s issues and mind/body/spirit, but she’s worked with screenplay writers, novelists, memoirists, and essayists over the course of her career. See Brooke’s website and her list of acquisitions at Seal Press.

Brooke’s Virtual Lunches are an opportunity for you to pitch projects or ideas to her. If you think your project is a good fit for Seal, let her know up front and she can offer you specific feedback with regards to what works for the press. In her role as coach and consultant, Brooke can help steer you toward refining your idea, pitch, and proposal so that it captures the attention of an agent or editor. These calls are collaborative conversations that involve brainstorming, refining, and getting clarity before submitting to an agent or editor. They can also be treated as your own personal Q&A session, so come with questions! Brooke is open to receiving a draft of a query letter or pitch you are working on (up to 5 pages) and/or a bio in advance of the call.
